Living fully is a value I hold dearly. Not that I'm a world traveler or extreme adventurer. But I have been chasing good experiences my whole life. Born in St. Augustine as a typical kid. I loved dirt bikes, BMX, skateboarding, Judo, surfing, fishing, and all the typical neighborhood sports. Now in my latter years, I mostly chase fish. I love being on the water.
In the process of chasing life I found something I didn't expect. I found that the good life is not as much about the adventurous outdoors stuff. While that is a blast and I still chase it pretty hard, what I found was life more internally. Truly in a spiritual way. These two settings of powerful experience have kept me fully engaged for the past 35 years or so.
Psalm 19 describes what I have experienced pretty clearly.
The first half talks about experiencing God in nature:
1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
The second half talks about experiencing God in the Scriptures:
7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.
I have poured a lot of my adult life into this pursuit of a vibrant inner life. I love to talk about it and share with friends, learning from each other and growing together in this share pursuit. I hope some of these thoughts and resources are an encouragement to you.
